Signagi is the heart of Kiziqi: the most picturesque corner of Kakheti. It lies on the south-eastern slopes of the Tsiv-Gombori range. The town looks over Alazani Valley from the height of 400 m above sea level.

The name of the town originates from the Turkic word that means ‘shelter’ or according to other historical sources ‘invincible’.
