The Shengavit Settlement is the one of the most important archaeological sites in Armenia. Dating back early Bronze Age, the basic settlement consists of four archaeological and cultural layers, which are late Neolithic, early, middle and late Eneolithics. The archaeological excavations, which started in August 2000, have shown that the settlement was surrounded by a high wall built with rough stones. The wall also had an underground, tiled tunnel to the river and the tombs spreading outside the wall.
