Food tour In Armenia & Georgia 9 Days / 8 Nights

Arrival in Land of NOAH. At Zvartnots International airport you will be welcomed and assisted through immigration and customs by Santa Maria Tours representative, then escorted to your hotel.

After the breakfast your guide will meet you at the lobby of the hotel and you’ll start your trip with the city tour in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, which is the largest city of Armenia. The city was founded in 8th century BC and was known as Erebuni. You will pass by the ancient streets of Yerevan such as Baghramyan street, Mashtots Avenue, one of the oldest street Abovyan. You’ll visit the Victory Park, from where you can admire the whole city. The walk will continue by Cascade Complex of massive staircase with fountains to the Opera and Ballet theater. Here in Cascade complex is located Cafesjian Center of Art, which offers a wide variety of exhibitions raised from the collection of contemporary art of the founder Gerard Cafesjian.

This day you’ll visit Matenadaran, which is the unique Museum of Armenian Manuscripts, located at the widest road of central Yerevan, named “Mashtots Avenue”. The museum is also named after Mesrop Mashtots, the creator of Armenian alphabet, who’s statue you can see in front of the building. When the museum was established as a distinct institution it had around 10.000 manuscripts. And now Matenadaran have 23.000 manuscripts and scrolls.

After the lunch you’ll have a chance to visit the legendary Armenian Brandy Cognac Ararat, which was started his production in 1887 in Yerevan. In a quarter of a century Armenian Brandy gained worldwide recognition and its production reached an imperial scale. Have a dinner in Armenian traditional restaurant with national dances and music.

This day you’ll start the trip by visiting the 4th largest city in Armenia, Etchmiadzin. Before 1945 officially it was admitted as Vagharshapat. Nowadays the city is best known as the center of the Armenian Apostolic Church “Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin” and as the location of its Cathedral. The Cathedral of Etchmiadzin was built in Ancient Armenia, in the early 4th century and was following the adoption of Christianity as a state religion by King Tiridates. In Etchmiadzin visit also St. Gayane and St. Hripsime Churches of 7th century. These two churches were listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Have a lunch in the Cross of Armenian Unity charitable cultural organization.

On the way back to Yerevan you’ll stop at the Zvartnoc Cathedral. The latter was built in 7th century and this is the oldest and largest aisled tetraconch church in historical Armenia. The Cathedral was destroyed in an earthquake in 10th century, but in spite of this it was reconstructed in 1940s. Thanks to this restoration, Zvartnotss’ ruins are touristic place to visit. After return to Yerevan and take a walk in Vernissage, which is one of the largest craft Markets in the region. People renamed this place as a Market in the open-air. Here we can find a huge quantity of traditional dolls, paintings, woodwork and ceramic, carpets, photographic equipments and armenian antique jeweleries made of silver and bronze. Have an excursion and dinner in Megerian carpet factory, established in 1917 at first in Armenia and after in New York. Their production of carpets was carrying out activity in some different countries such as Egypt, Armenia, Romania, Pakistan, Afghanistan and China.

The fourth excursional day you’ll visit one of the most visiting sites of Armenia – Garni Pagan Temple which is located in the village of Garni. Built in the 1st century CE, the Temple of Garni survived the destruction of pagan temples following Armenia’s convention of Christianity. After the earthquakes the temple was reconstructed. The latter is situated on a cliff, from where opens a beautiful panoramic view up to a range of Geghama mountains as well as the Azat River near the Ararat Plain. The Medieval Monastery of Geghard is located deep within Azat Valley, founded by Saint Gregory the Illuminator as the area of a small Christian chapel. The complex is accepted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 CE. You can have a lunch here in Garni village where you can be present also at a preparation of Armenian bread “Lavash”. Gala Dinner the last day of your trip. Enjoy your evening by walking in street of the historic Yerevan.

After the breakfast in the hotel drive to the blue Pearl of Armenia – Lake Sevan, recognized as a national treasure in the country. It is the largest lake of the Caucasus and Armenia, at an altitude of 1900 m above sea level. At the shore of a small island is located the Monastery complex of Sevanavank. After the water level fell about 20 m, the island transformed into a peninsula. You can take your lunch here in Sevan, which provides approximately 90% of the fish and 80% of the crayfish catch of Armenia. Armenian Switzerland, known as Dilijan, is one of the most important resorts of Armenia. You’ll have a little city tour in old town of Dilijan which includes Sharambeyan street in the center, complete with craftsman’s workshops, galleries and museums. Drive to the Lake Parz, where you’ll see the beautiful nature of Dilijan. Have a lunch in Dilijan, with local food. After the lunch You’ll be transferred to Tbilisi.

City tour of Tbilisi: Metekhi Church, delight with unforgettable panoramic views over the river Mtkvari and the main attractions of Tbilisi old district, Narikala Fortress – the ancient symbol of the city, Sioni built in 6-7th CC, synagogue, the only remaining mosque in Tbilisi, etc. Visit Abanotubani sulfur baths. Visitors will walk to the pedestrian street Sharden. Culinary master class of making Khachapuri (Georgian cheese pie) and Pkhali (traditional dish, vegetable assortment with walnuts). Departure to the East part of Georgia Kakheti Region, homeland of wine, Kakheti has the oldest continuous unbroken unique Qvevri traditions of clay pots used to create delicious, unfiltered, organic wines. Sightseeing of Sighnaghi, Art museum remarkable with the exhibition of famous painter Niko Pirosmani, Bodbe Monastery. After excursion visit local cellar, Culinary master-class: bake Georgian bread called “Shoti”, cook Kakhetian barbeque Mtsvadi, Georgian national sweet “Churchkhela”. Continue to Tsinandali – family estate, museum, vinery belonged to great winemaker Aleksandre Chavchavadze. Overnight in Tbilisi
